The Youth ministry was offered by the church founder in the past but is currently not functioning because the organization is still looking for a suitable candidate. This is an indication that within the church there is no mentoring taking place to transfer knowledge and past experiences which is a critical need for training potential leaders to take up the responsibilities of vacant program coordinators.
The women ministry was led by a former pastor but due to moving out the church, the women ministry was given to a second pastor who is a retired government nurse however this is an indication that there is a need for a knowledge retention policy to reduce the risk of knowledge loss. The soup kitchen was operated by a group of housewife’s and widows but due to lack of knowledge on how to get donations for food products, the soup kitchen is not functioning effectively. This means that there is a need to acquire and capture available knowledge to obtain donations.
The majority of program coordinators, church leaders including the book keeper and administrator do not feel competent and gave themselves a score of five and below. Their reasons included lack of knowledge, experience and education or professional development.
This means the knowledge gap can certainly be addressed by means of knowledge sharing practices. Click on the linked image below to get latest updates on KM in South Africa.
