To create a KM culture within the organization.
Introduce mentorship for transferring knowledge and skills.
Assign a dedicated member e.g. Librarian (together with a team) to manage KM practices in the organization.
Since most of the knowledge is in tacit from, a KM officer and his/her team needs to introduce storytelling and face-to-face dialogue to share the knowledge. However, this storytelling and dialogue can be made explicit through video recordings in the form of interviews or group discussions.
The tacit knowledge which is captured and made explicit can be stored on this blog and even via emailing as a knowledge management system for knowledge sharing purposes.
A knowledge retention policy could be designed through using online available templates. The same counts for any other knowledge tasks, in the case if this critical knowledge does not exists in the organization and if it needs to be acquired.
For skills development or transferring of skills, educated and competent members can provide learning tutorials. The organization could acquire a laptop, projector and internet access to facilitate organizational learning.
Additionally, the knowledge and information of partners, suppliers and potential service providers needs to be captured in a database and this should be shared and made accessible to all who requires this information and knowledge. Even a database of all the organizational members personal information, their knowledge, skills, education and networks will be very useful in order for members to know who holds specific knowledge required for them to preform their role and duties.
Most importantly, the organization's vision, mission goals, objectives and programs needs to be made explicit in the form of brochures, flyers and online via social media platforms because all this information is shared orally and its made not accessible.
In the case of members leaving the organization or in the case of retirement and death, there needs to be a succession plan in place. To combat knowledge loss.
